Q & A -
What’s Up With Open Door Fellowship?
We thought you were moving to 104th and Blackhawk in 2008 or 2009?So did we, but we’ve had a few delays. Chuck Swindoll gives wise counsel about church building projects like this. He said, “It will take longer than you think, cost more than you think, and be messier than you think.” This has been very good counsel.
So, are you eventually going to be moving to your new location?
Absolutely! We own our property on 104th Avenue, the civil engineering work is completed and paid for, and the architectural plans are also completed, paid for, and approved. We even have our new postal address (14150 E. 104th Avenue). Our sign stays put on 104th Avenue. It marks the future location of Open Door Fellowship. What happened?
The nationwide financial crisis has impacted our church as well as other organizations in our community. To this point, we have been unable to finalize our loan arrangements to begin building.
Will you ever be able to finalize these financial arrangements?
Yes, when the time is right. We believe the Lord wants a great church at 104th and Blackhawk, and we believe we are that church! So, we will continue to trust God as we wait for dirt to fly. We are on track.
What will you be doing in the meantime?
We will continue meeting at Turnberry Elementary and looking for ways to make a positive impact on our community. A church is not defined by the building they meet in.
We are looking forward to the day when we will have our own building. Until then, we will continue loving our God, serving our community, and working toward our goals. You must be a little disappointed by this unexpected change of plans.
To be honest, yes. But we have a big God. We’re learning to enjoy the journey. Sometimes things move quickly, and sometimes they don’t. Only five days after we learned we received the land on 104th and Blackhawk, two pastors walked unannounced into our (former)
building and said they wanted to buy it! That was quick. Other things happen slowly. We have great stories of how the Lord has blessed us throughout this process. There is an old Russian proverb that says, “Pray to God, but continue to row to the shore.” We are praying, and we are working hard to reach our goal. What do you want your future neighbors to know about Open Door Fellowship?
Someone once said the church is the only organization that exists for the sake of its nonmembers. We want our neighbors to know that Open Door Fellowship is a safe place where you will be welcomed and accepted just as you are. We want others to discover that the good life is much more than having a beautiful home, a great family, and a good job. We want our neighbors to experience what we have experienced.
